I was watching a comedian, and he did a skit on people who hear a knock at their door. He dropped to the ground and moved away from the windows so that he would not be seen. He checks his ring camera on the door and decides if he wants to let the person in or not. He then went on to say that when he was a child the door was always open, and his mother always had a cake and a pot of coffee brewing in case someone stopped by.
I then imagined what this comedian would do if it was Jesus at the door. Would he recognize him? Would he ask to his ID? Would he hide or would he throw the doors open and welcome him in?
Jesus knocks on our doors every day, that is, the doors of our hearts. He is present in all those we meet daily. He is in the widow, the child, the woman in line at the grocery, the man getting gas, the father struggling to pay the bills. Jesus walks among us every day and until we open the door and get to know him, we are no better than the comedian who drops to the floor to hide. The difference being, there is no hiding from Jesus.
Get to know him, fall in love with him and when the knock comes open the door and welcome him in!
