If you go through the bible, you will not find one quote from Saint Joseph. Nowhere is there anything he said written down. In Matthew chapter one Saint Joseph is described as a “Just Man.” That is saying a lot. A just man was someone of utmost virtue, someone good and honest. He must have also had incredible faith in God. How else would he be able to follow God’s command so readily.
Saint Joseph’s commitment to God and the Holy Family was unwavering. He followed God’s command and took Mary as his wife, he traveled to a foreign land without questioning and he cared for Jesus as if he was his own flesh. His sacrifices and care for Mary and Jesus make him the perfect role model for fathers. He is also the perfect role model for prayer. Not just prayer in the sense of words but listening prayer. He was so in tune with God that he recognized God speaking to him and he acted. He did not doubt but had faith in what was being asked of him.
He is the perfect example of action speaking louder than words. Maybe during this fifth week of lent we can turn to Saint Joseph and ask him to guide us in our prayer lives so that we can be better in tune with hearing the voice of God and what he is calling us to.
Saint Joseph pray for us!
