"The Trauma-Informed Spiritual Exercises: Growing Your Spiritual and Pastoral Caregiving Skills"
"Epidemiological research indicates that about 70% of people, worldwide, have been exposed to at least one traumatic incident in their lives, though only 7% to 8% of the population qualifies for a diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder. 30% to 70% of individuals who experience trauma also report positive change and growth - including spiritually - emerging from the traumatic experience. This weekend workshop, grounded in Fr. McChesney's book, "The Soul Also Keeps the Score: A Trauma-Informed Companion to the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises," will: 1) consider Saint Ignatius in light of contemporary trauma theory; 2) examine the significance of "soul-healing" in Christian and Ignatian tradition; and 3) identify and discuss particular Ignatian spiritual and pastoral practices adapted to those we accompany who may be journeying through posttraumatic growth."
