The importance of today’s Gospel is faith. Jesus is reminding his followers of the miracles he has performed. He wants them remember that he will take care of them. They need to have faith and trust. He wants them to put their faith in him.
The disciples forgot bread and were fully focused on that and losing focus of the bigger picture. We all forget things especially when we are feeling overwhelmed. It is just human nature. It is when we obsess with what we don’t have that we tend to forget all we do have. This also applies to our relationship with Jesus.
One way I found to combat forgetfulness and strengthen my faith is to start my day with an attitude of gratitude. I think about something I am grateful for. There are always basic check list items such as family, a roof over our heads and food. Those things are a blessing as many do not have a support system and or basic necessities. After we get through the basic check list, we are forced to look deeper, we find we focus more on God’s goodness and grace. It is then we can ask ourselves what can I do to cause someone else to be grateful to God? When has God used me to be a miracle or blessing in someone else’s life? Do I give gratitude for all the miracles and blessings in my life?
Start each day with an attitude of gratitude and you will see your faith strengthen and realize how busy God is in your day to day life.
