In these busy days leading up to Christmas what are you looking for? Are you caught up in the rushing to Christmas frenzy or are you slowing down and waiting for Christmas? There are so many things competing for our attention and distracting us from seeking the hush of Advent.
The season of Advent is a time for us to pause and prepare for the coming of our Lord. In that pause we will feel the prince of peace reaching out to us, calling us closer to him.
There are many ways we can do this. We can carve out a few minutes each day to sit and pray. We can listen to Advent meditations. One thing I like to do is sit in front of our nativity scene. I pick one of the characters in the scene and I try to imagine what they were thinking and feeling as they gaze on the Christ child. I wonder what Joseph is feeling as he watches over Mary and Jesus. Is he pondering what God has in store for them. As a mom myself, I can imagine that overwhelming love Mary must be feeling as she gazes at her beautiful baby. I imagine being a wise man with unlimited riches and all that matters is the child before me. I image being the young shepherd boy watching this baby and dreaming of all that he will do to change this world. I imagine being one of the angels singing glory to the newborn king. Who would you imagine being? Imagine just being yourself there in silence watching the breath of heaven.
“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.” Those were Jesus’ words to the disciples. Those are his words to us today. We have been blessed with his words as they come to life in the gospel. This Advent take the time to see where Jesus is taking you on your prayer journey as he prepares your heart for his arrival.
