Daily Reflection Thursday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time

Although this Herod [the son of Herod the Great] doesn’t have the greatest reputation especially because of his spineless giving in to Salome when she called for John the Baptist’s head and his role in the Passion of Jesus, but here he is presented as someone curious about the Lord.

Herod’s question about the identity of Jesus is answered by the subsequent events: he is the Feeder of the hungry, the suffering Son of Man, the Master and Chosen Son of God.

Our gospel today serves as a reminder of the profound impact Jesus had on people during his ministry. His teachings and miracles were so powerful that they continued to reverberate long after his interactions with individuals. Herod’s uncertainty and fear may reflect the inner turmoil that many experienced when confronted with the message and presence of Jesus.

Let’s consider the enduring influence of Jesus in our own lives. His teachings continue to inspire, challenge, and comfort people around the world.
