Who are you? When I read this passage, I immediately thought of Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.
I wonder what my answer to that question might be. I might respond who me? Are you asking me? I am a wife, a mom, a grandma, a sister…. The list goes on and on but are they really the answers to the question being asked. The real question is who am I in response to God’s calling? You see each of us are created to answer that very question.
God tells us in Jeremiah 1:5 who we are, and our baptism reaffirms, that we are called to be priest, prophet, and king. How do we live out that calling? Are we as sure of ourselves as John was when he was asked “who are you?” John knew he was created to prepare the way of the Lord. Image yourself being given that very task. No pressure there!
In reality, we are all given that very task. We are all called to share the good news of Jesus. To be his messenger in this crazy world. Somedays the task is easy other days it’s challenging to say the least. The one thing that can help us answer God’s call is to deepen our relationship with him. This January, when we are all making our ever-exhausting list of new year’s resolutions, maybe we can resolve to spend some time each day in prayer, drawing closer to God. Then we can be better prepared to answer the question “who are you?” and what is God calling you to do?
