Besides Andrew and Paul, Pope John Paul II canonized 98 Koreans and three French missionaries who had been martyred between 1839 and 1867, when he visited Korea in 1984. Among them were bishops and priests, but for the most part they were lay persons: 47 women and 45 men. Religious freedom came to Korea in 1883. Interesting and a painful story to read.
In this Gospel we see the depth of friendship, faith, and generosity. These men and women gave up everything to journey with Jesus, preaching and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. The Twelve and the women who had been cure from demons and other evil infirmities said “yes we are all in” as the saying goes today.
The depth of love and appreciation for all Jesus did is shown by the fact they provided for all they needed. He healed people, forgave sins and transformed lives.
We can ask ourselves “are we all in?” Do we take time, quality time to be with Jesus or invite Jesus to be with us in our daily lives. To take time for a Sacred Pause and be still allowing Jesus to be with you being aware of the presence of God with you. Do we believe Divine Wisdom awaits us in silence? To take time to be with the Holy Scriptures that are alive and which Jesus speaks to our hearts and our lives. Do you take time to be with creation and be open to the awe of God’s love through the wonders of nature?
The real question is, “are you all in?” or just stay with a quick prayer occasionally, a quick sign of the cross at meals, or a “God Bless everyone, goodnight.” Well, I can now feel like I prayed.
Reflect today on what is the extent of your commitment to Jesus.
Do you invite Jesus into everything you do, everyday work, play, ministry, resting every part of your daily life? How much is Jesus a part of your decisions and choices?
Nothing is more practical than
finding God, than
falling in Love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.
It will decide
what will get you out of bed in the morning,
what you do with your evenings,
how you spend your weekends,
what you read, whom you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in Love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything. - Pedro Arrupe
