In Matthew 13:43 Jesus is teaching in parables and says, “those who have ears ought to hear.” In today’s gospel it is God the Father who is speaking directly to Peter, James, John, and each of us. The Father is reminding us that Jesus is his beloved Son, and we are to listen to him.
Listening seems to be a lost art. We are living in a world full of noise and distractions. God spoke to Elijah in a gentle whisper. God is not competing with all the noise He is above it. He speaks to us loudest in the quietest moments just like he did with Elijah. He is always speaking to us. He speaks to us in the bible, and when words are not necessary, he speaks to us in the deeds and works of those around us.
Sometimes when we are chasing that mountain-top experience, looking for those “profound religious experiences” we should remember that God is the one who will truly transform our lives. Listen for Him and then you will be able to listen to Him.
